Thailand's national curriculum is overseen by the Ministry of Education. The growing international school sector is concentrated in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket, following British, American, IB, and Australian curricula. The government has expanded English-medium programmes within the state system (English Programme and Mini-English Programme schools), creating additional opportunities for qualified English-speaking teachers.

International school salaries in Thailand range from THB 60,000 to THB 180,000/month (approximately £13,000–£40,000/year), with housing and health insurance often included. State school salaries for foreign teachers are lower (THB 30,000–60,000/month) but paired with very low living costs. Bangkok's cost of living has risen but remains modest by international standards outside premium expat areas.

Foreign teachers in Thailand work on a Non-Immigrant B visa, converted to a work permit on arrival in-country. Schools sponsor and manage the permit process, which must be renewed annually. A bachelor's degree minimum is required; a recognised teaching qualification and/or CELTA significantly improves employment prospects. The process is well-established; schools experienced in international hiring handle it routinely.
