Qatar operates both a government school system (Arabic curriculum) and a growing international school sector serving the large expat population. Education City in Doha hosts branch campuses of several international universities. The Supreme Education Council oversees government schools; international schools operate under their own accreditation frameworks. Demand for English-medium schooling continues to grow rapidly.
Roles and salaries
International school teaching in Qatar is tax-free, with typical packages of QAR 12,000–QAR 25,000/month plus housing, flights, and medical cover. Experienced teachers in high-demand subjects attract strong offers. Benefits packages vary by school tier. Established international schools offer the most comprehensive arrangements. The total package is competitive by global standards.
Working here. What to know
Qatar issues residence permits for all employed workers, managed by the sponsoring school. A recognised degree and teaching qualification are required. The process typically takes four to eight weeks. Qatar has simplified many of its residency regulations in recent years, and teachers report a generally supportive process when sponsored by established international schools.
