Australia has government, Catholic, and independent school sectors across six states and two territories, each managing its own curriculum within a national Australian Curriculum framework (Foundation to Year 10). Teaching in Australia requires registration with the relevant state or territory teaching authority (e.g. NESA in NSW, VIT in Victoria). Overseas teachers typically apply for a Skilled Migrant visa (subclass 189 or 190) or a Temporary Skill Shortage visa (482). Teaching is on Australia's Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List, supporting permanent residency pathways.
